Overview

Tenuta Buon Tempo is an estate located in the far south of the territory of Montalcino, near Castelnuovo dell’Abate, in an area with a particular vocation for winegrowing. The company name aims to highlight the pleasant peace and quiet that characterise this splendid valley, Buon Tempo being the Italian for “good time”.

65,000 bottles of Rosso di Montalcino and Brunello di Montalcino are made every year, along with a very small and highly selected production of Brunello Riserva in exceptionally good years.

Our commitment is to make high quality wines that fully reflect the unique terroir offered by this area of Montalcino.

Terroir

Reduced rainfall, constant ventilation, poor soils and excellent exposure make Tenuta Buon Tempo an ideal place for the production of high quality, outstandingly elegant wines.

This is due to the influence and the protection offered by Mount Amiata from south and by the hill of Montalcino from north.

Our philosophy is to safeguard the typicality and enhance the expression of these very particular conditions.

Vineyards

Tenuta Buon Tempo stretches for 26 hectares, 12 of which cultivated as vineyards. About 5 hectares of these are devoted exclusively to Brunello di Montalcino.

The vineyards are all situated around the villa and the modern cellar, at an average altitude of 350 m above sea level, with south-easterly exposure.

The main composition of the soils is Galestro marl and sandstone, with a rich presence of heavy stone and considerable variability even within a very short distance.

The only grape variety grown is Sangiovese Grosso, in that it is the finest expression of the typical characteristics of Montalcino and the only variety that can be contained in its most prestigious wines, Rosso and Brunello, which represent the estate’s entire production.

Cellar

The Tenuta Buon Tempo cellar combines state-of-the-art vinification technology with a traditional structure situated entirely under the ground. This allows perfect control of the ambient temperature, considerable energy savings and a reduced environmental impact.

The impressive barrel cellar houses 150 tonneaux made of French oak, in which our Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino rest and age.

Wines

At Tenuta Buon Tempo the challenge is to make full-bodied, well-structured wines without foregoing the balance, elegance and longevity that only Sangiovese is capable of expressing in this territory.

Brunello di Montalcino "Alta"

DENOMINAZIONE DI ORIGINE CONTROLLATA E GARANTITA

Brunello di Montalcino “Alta” is a personal cellar selection made by the owner and the winemaker of our best tonneaux at the end of 36 months ageing.
It is selected for it’s aromatic qualities and because it possesses certain characteristics suitable for long term ageing. It is then allowed to age further in tonneau and later in bottle.

Brunello di Montalcino "Riserva"

DENOMINAZIONE DI ORIGINE CONTROLLATA E GARANTITA

This Brunello Riserva is produced only in exceptional years of outstanding climactic conditions that create a perfect growing season.
Less than 10% of the best grapes from the oldest vines are chosen for the Riserva.
The vinification process is following the same philosophy of the other Brunellos but differs by lengthening the various phases and augmenting the use of wood in order to reveal the quality of the grapes thus creating a wine of great finesse, structure and ageing potential.
This is a wine that exalts the terroir and the growing season of the year it was produced.

Brunello di Montalcino p.56

DENOMINAZIONE DI ORIGINE CONTROLLATA E GARANTITA

The name “p.56” refers to the land registry plot of our oldest vineyard of around 25 year old vines.
The highest portion of the vineyard is where we selected the smallest bunches of the highest quality grapes passing through the vineyard numerous times looking for the perfect maturation, concentration and aromatic components of each grape needed for the selection.
Combined with gentle vinification in our cellar this wine shows great complexity, elegance and structure and will with time show the longevity that represents the best of our unique terroir in Castelnuovo dell’Abate. A terroir that generously. Gives us beautiful wine year after year.
